ABSTRACT
INTRODUCTIONHigh blood pressure (HBP) is one of the most common cardiovascular risk factors and a primary contributor to the development of cardiovascular complications, which are the leading cause of death in Mexico and around the world. Systemic HBP is a nosological entity resulting from multiple pathophysiological mechanisms. Its onset, development, progression, damage, and systemic complications define the need to study it with a holistic approach. While HBP per se generates structural and functional damage in the micro and macrocirculation, its damage to various target organs in turn triggers feedback mechanisms that perpetuate or accelerate the harmful behavior of increased pressure values themselves.
